Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • ⅓ cup mild honey (orange or star thistle are nice)
  • 1 teaspoon dried lavender or 6 stalks of fresh lavender blossoms
  • 3 satsuma or other seedless mandarins
Directions
  1. Warm the honey, and if you are using the dried lavender, crush it and add it to the honey. Remove the mixture from the heat and let it steep until it has a nice lavender flavor, about 30 minutes. Strain the honey before serving.
  2. Peel the mandarins, and with a very sharp knife, cut them into ¼-inch-thick slices. Arrange the slices, slightly overlapping, on dessert plates.
  3. Drizzle the honey over the mandarin slices. If you have fresh lavender, gently pull the tiny blossoms from the stalks and strew them over the mandarin slices.
  4. Serve on its own for a refreshing dessert or try serving with a buttery cookie, like the Mexican wedding cakes.
  5. Or for a savory twist serve over a simple spinach salad, or arugula greens.
