How to propagate lavender from cuttings: a step-by-step guide

Every fall, we propagate thousands of organic lavender plants from cuttings. Learning how to propagate is a fun and important skill for a lavender grower to learn, so we wanted to share our process with you.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to propagate lavender from cuttings.

Step One: Begin with a healthy plant

Step Two: Cut stem with sterilized pruners. Cut soft wood along with a bit of harder wood.

Step Three: Remove lower leaves.

Step Four: Remove tips (optional).

Step Five: Place cutting in a sterile, course, well drained mix. Make sure tray is shallow so heat can penetrate cutting. Rooting hormone is optional. There are both non organic and organic options that will stimulate growth.

Step Six: Place on heat mat or bed and set temperature at 75 Fahrenheit. Water and mist daily until cutting have rooted. Once rooted remove from heat and pot up to larger pot. Rooting time can very depending on the species and cultivar of lavender.

    I see time it takes to root varies, but can you give an estimate? Where can I get several grown lavenders Late November early December?
