3 DIY gifts to make for your lavender-obsessed friends this year

When it comes to gift-giving, nothing beats a gift from the heart. Especially if it smells like lavender.

Do you just love the calming, soothing, floral scent of lavender?

We do, too!

Share that love of lavender with the people in your life with these 3 DIY gifts.

These DIY lavender crafts are inspired by our favorite organic lavender products: Lavandin essential oil, ‘Grosso’ lavender buds, and dried lavender bundles. Find all these products on our online store, or make an appointment to shop at our farm stand during winter!

The rest of the materials needed for each craft can likely be found at your local crafts store. Support local shops by buying your crafting materials in-store!

Essential Oil Pendant Diffuser

Make your own pendant with terra cotta clay, or buy already-made terra cotta beads to make your own essential oil diffusing necklace. Terra cotta is a wonderful, porous material that will absorb lavender or any other essential oil you put on it.

Just add a drop of essential oil to your pendant and let it sit for a moment while the terra cotta absorbs the essential oil – then you’ll be carrying the lovely smell of lavender with you throughout the day!

DIY Lavender Crafts

To make your own terra cotta pendant…

Gather your materials:

  • Terra cotta air dry clay
  • Small (1″ diameter) cookie cutters or an Exacto-knife
  • Toothpick
  • Rolling pin
  • Scissors
  • Necklace cord or leather string

Break off a piece of terra cotta clay and work it with your hands until it’s soft and pliable. Roll out the clay with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/8th of an inch thick. Using a small cookie cutter or by free-hand with an Exacto-knife, cut a shape out of the clay. Remove the excess clay and smooth out the edges with your finger.

Add a hole in the pendant using a toothpick. Make sure the hole is big enough to fit your cord through. Follow the drying directions and allow your clay to dry thoroughly before moving it around.

Cut your necklace cord to the desired length and, once your pendant is completely dry, lace the cord through the hole in your pendant.

Then, make lotion bars.
